First Impressions Unboxing:

The #PumpkinVoxBox was jam packed with stuff that I definitely liked and would use. Anybody who knows me knows that I'm a snackaholic who's not going to rehab!  The edibles in the box, which were Alexia Foods Sweet Potato Fries, Yucatan Guacamole, Popchips, Werthers Orignials Soft Carmels, and Goodness Knows Snack Squares, were all delish! You can find them all online, or at your local Wal-Mart. I enjoyed coming up with recipes that incorporated them, like a taco salad for the Yucantan Guacamole, Alexia sweet potato fries with a honey cinnamon glaze, and a caramel apple dip using the Werthers Soft Caramels, just to name a couple.

Which is why it was awesome when I found out I would be reviewing the new Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Voxbox. thanks to +Influenster! Right on time! Yessss! Wondering how does the "Airbrush Legs" effect look, and if its something you want? Read on and find out!

A couple of questions came to mind about using this. What is Airbrush Legs exactly, right?  
The best way to describe it is, a bronzer and self tanning lotion that "gives your legs an instant glow, and builds into a natural looking tan." Leg make-up, if you will. Makes perfect sense now!

Some useful information I learned about Airbrush Legs:

  • It also works as a moisturizer that isn't oily or greasy and dries fast.
  • Supposedly, its "transfer resistant" so it shouldn't rub off or stain clothing. (We'll see)
  • Doesn't have a funky, chemical, strong self tanner odor to it. #Truth
  • Comes in two natural looking shades. I'm the browner shade :)
  •  There is also a spray foundation version of this for your face, which I haven't tried.

Reviews: The Guardian VoxBox From Influenster #WeBeatDeet


Hello end of summer lovelies! When I think of fall and the cold, wet, snowy weather coming, ugh!

Y U do dis New England?

To cheer me up from those thoughts, fresh from Influenster, I recently got a free sample of Guardian Wilderness 8 hour Pest Repellent, just in time for Labor Day. (if you wanna join, read on.)

You may not quite get the connection between all things beauty (my fave topic!) and some insect repellent, but for realz, its hard to have soft, smooth skin when its covered in bug bites. Anybody who had the fun experience of getting bit by mosquitos knows the itchy, red welts they leave behind and it ain't pretty. What's more, its DEET free, meaning no nasty side effects from poisonous substances in the formula; which is what makes Guardian non-toxic and safe to use, as it is plant based.

So all that in mind, I was excited to try it out, as I had plans to take a trip to the park by the lake the coming weekend; a perfect occasion to spray some on to fend off bugs and see an end result. So when the day of the BBQ came, I packed all the essentials and things we'd need to get the party popping, remembering to toss my the package of Guardian spray in my bag before heading out the door. I should note that this was after an obligatory last mirror glance to make sure my outfit was on point, and to check that stains from packing food to go hadn't hit my Gap white linen bow shorts and short-sleeved salmon colored tee.

Fast forward to the partay, I decided to unbox the package once we were there after we were all set up. I gave an allover spray to my exposed skin (arms and legs) and right away noticed a sweet, yummy pleasant scent, and a light, non-greasy feeling as it settled on my skin.

Then I went on about my business, which involved hungry stares at the food on a smoky grill, rocking out to some tunes on my Beats speaker on my the blanket. No grill duty for me in white shorts, thanks  (I did the home prep, made sides and unpacked supplies, that was my contribution to the BBQ).

You better believe I spritzed again with it just in case, and offered sprays to everyone there. I liked that the pump dispensed easily and didn't messily clog after use. Nice.


This is what the bottle of Guardian 8hr Wilderness Deet Free Repellent looks like on the right. And neat, they even sent along a card with more info about Guardian.
Hopefully I sprayed. My concern was, would it work?

SoMimi Reviews: Not Your Mother's Beach Babe #NYMBeachBabe

Hey y'all! Happy August! It's hot out there! I don't about you, but for me right now, the beach is better!




I've been having a great summer, and I hope the same goes for you.

Thanks to Influenster, I got to try out Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Shampoo and Conditioner (available at Ulta among other retail outlets) and I'm here to share with you the deets. The shampoo and conditioner duo was included in the awesome #SurfsUpVoxBox I recently received from Influenster; which I'll tell you more about later (look out for my next post). But let me get back to basics about the wash.

My first impressions of the duo pre-shampoo: Nice light scent, light non-oily feel, cute packaging, and sulfate-free...major points for that. Worthy of moving on to the next part of the test to see if the shampoo and conditioner were So Mimi, So-so, or Not So.

My natural hair texture is a very fine and frizz prone corkscrew curly 3c.  I typically go to the salon for a twice monthly blowout, which is how I achieve the bone straight look, and maintain it with my Ion One Stroke Flatiron (one of the best I've ever owned, by the way) Here's a hair type chart, in case you aren't sure where you are on the spectrum.

Needless to say, I was curious as to the result that this would have on my specific hair type, and was anxious to see how it would turn out. I love coconut oil and NYMBB has it in the mix, and sea kelp. Heck yeah.

Before NYMBB Shampoo/Conditioner me:


So overdue. I haven't washed my hair in over a week, no kidding. Here goes.


After NYMBB Shampoo/Conditioner:


Cheese! Coconut scented anything makes me smile.


The verdict: It's so-so. Yes, it had a great scent, hair-healthy ingredients, and came in a cute tube, but I was just not completely wowed by NYMBB Texturizing Shampoo or Conditioner. It jumped in the shower ready to wail Amy Winehouse ballads off-key, shampooing my way to luxe locks, but post-wash, as my hair began to dry, I realized I would not be switching from my regular go-to brand. With this, I got a decent clean that didn't strip all my natural oils from the shampoo, but the conditioner left me with a frizz fluff. I tend to stay away from "texturizing" products out of fear they will disrupt my natural curl pattern. Not sure that happened here (you be the judge) but there was something wonky about the volume and lack of shine. All in all, it seems this shampoo and conditioner would work best on someone with fine, straight to wavy hair. And that someone isn't me, unfortunately.
